An experience that would not be forgotten

Hello. My name is Mrs Naidu and I'm a teacher at Beacon Ridge Primary School (KwaZulu-Natal) where I teach grades 5. My dream is called "An experience that would not be forgotten" and is geared towards the following learning areas: Languages, Natural Sciences.

"To realise my dream I need to raise R5769.00 which will benefit 98 learners. That works out to R59 per learner. Thanks to everyone involved: this dream is completely funded."

I would like my learners to go on a field trip to the Beach (uShaka in Durban) the Aquarium and the Dolphinarium. I want my learners to learn to preserve our oceans and make them understand the difference between the ecosystems. My learners will have to observe the tanks and find out how the animals adapt to their environment and how they move around. These are things I want them to experience when going to the Marine World.

Learning Outcomes

Learning Area: Natural Science
Learning Outcome 1: Science Investigation
The learners will be able to act confidently on curiosity about natural phenomena eg. waves.

Learning Outcome 2: Constructing knowledge
The learners should be able to interpret scientific, technological and environmental knowledge e.g aquarium tank (technology)

Learning Area: Social Skill
Learning Outcome 1: Geographical enquiry
To be able to use Enquiry skills to investigate environmental concepts and processes.

Learning Area: Mathematics
Learning Outcome 3: Space and shape
Three-dimensional objects e.g sharks tank / aquarium tanks.

Learning Area: Language
Leaning Outcome 1: Listening
They are going to listen to the tour guide about what they are seeing

Learning Outcome 2: Speaking
They will ask questions about the animals that they see and what they are being taught

Learning Outcome 3: Reading and Viewing
They are going to be seeing different kinds of fishes and they are going to be reading about their habitat

Learning Outcome 4: Writing Skill
The learners will write about what they have seen at the Aquarium and draw pictures of the animals that they have seen.

Learning Outcome 5: Thinking and reasoning
They will think mostly about how the animals breath under water and how they swim around.

Learning Area: Arts & Culture
Learning Outcome 1: Creating, interpreting and presenting
The learners will be able to draw dolphins and sharks in the tanks. They will doing a collage of the different animals that they have seen.
