Teachers Dream

Dream Proposal

Physical Development of our learners

Hello. My name is Mrs Bates and I'm a teacher at Vista Nova School (Western Cape) where I teach grades 3. My dream is called "Physical Development of our learners" and is geared towards the following learning areas: Life Orientation.

"To realise my dream I need to raise R2784.38 which will benefit 45 learners. That works out to R62 per learner. We haven't received any funding for this dream yet."

The venue is at Gordon’s Gymnastics Club. It will be 3 hours long. The Gym has offered us a reduced price of R50. This works out to R17 per hour. We have our own bus transport but a charge of R5 is asked of the parents to cover this – the amount would be R55 per learner altogether.

Our children come from all over the peninsula and never have a chance to play at each other’s homes. Gymnastics in this form does not exist at school and none of them have ever done proper gym before. None of them can afford to take gymnastics privately. Their being of an energetic nature these children will adore the opportunity to exercise in this large well equipped, well supervised and safe environment.

Physical Development and Movement is Learning Outcome 4 (LO4) in Life Orientation. The learner will be able to demonstrate an understanding of, and participate in, activities that promote movement and physical development.

This means that physical and motor development is integral to the holistic development of learners. It makes a significant contribution to learners’ social, personal and emotional development. Play, movement, games and sport contribute to developing positive attitudes and values. This area focuses on perceptual motor development, games and sport, physical growth and development, recreation and play.

It would be great for learners be taught by professional coaches for once and have a supervised lesson that caters to their special needs in an environment that provides the safety they need.l And having some varied activities that they would normally not do at school.

This would be a good bonding time together as they have few opportunities to really express themselves physically. They spend much of the day pouring over their books.

After this experience they will have tried something new, felt satisfaction and gained a new skill or experience they hadn’t had the opportunity to try before. Their horizons will have been extended to an extra mural exercise away from the usual school routine. Trying new things whets an appetite for other life experiences producing braver and more curious adventurers.
