A visit to Robben Island for Zanemfundo Primary
Zanemfundo Primary SchoolIt was a wonderful experience to be involved in our dream lesson. To us it was like an eye opener because there are so many things, we thought we know but up until we experience our dream lesson. On the day of the dream lesson both teachers and learners were so happy and looking forward to fulfill our dream. At about 8:00 in the morning staff and learners were ready except those learner, who are prohibited by their culture e.g Twins. On the bus our learners were anxious about Robben Island.
We reached the Waterfront on time and the bout was waiting for us. In fact the lesson started at the Waterfront. Teachers for Natural Science and Social Science began to explain some facts like the “Two Oceans” Atlantic and Indian Ocean. Both the similarities and differences eg. Atlantic ocean – cold and Indian ocean – hot water. We reached the Island on time and we were welcomed by the tour guides and divided us into two groups. The tour guides were Ex-apolitical prisoner who gave the class the relevant information and a piece of painful history of Robben Island ex-prisoners.
These are the Learning Areas and outcomes I wanted to archive and they were all achieved:
Learning Area: Social Science
Learning Outcome1, 2, 3: Travelling and exploring the world
The learners will be able to demonstrate the inter-relationship between Science Technology, Society and environment
Learning Area: Natural Science
Learning Outcome 1: Scientific Investigation
The learners will listen to the presentation and investigate why the water at Robben Island is cold (The difference in temperature)
Learning Area: Language
Learning Outcome 1: Listening
The tour guide will give the learners a tour and they will be listening to him/her while in Robben Island
Assessments done by the learners:
In the classroom we did assignments, Investigation, practical demonstration, class work, worksheets, Music/songs, exhibition. We assess whether learners were competent in terms of acquiring the info. All tasks assigned to them were done.
Thanks to Teachers Dream they turned the impossible into possible. Teachers Dream interest to fulfill the dreams of teachers. Sometimes some of the school they don’t have the money to have excursions in school. I strongly recommend Teachers Dream
